Ritchie and MacLean for Oaklyn Council | |
Category: | |
Description: |
It's time for fresh voices in Oaklyn! * Establishing Accountability in Local Government. "Accountability" refers to the relationship between what citizens demand and what government officials do in response. Unfortunately, we see a considerable deficiency in this area. The same "good old boys" group of politicians has governed Oaklyn for decades with little or no outside competition - no wonder that our municipal government feels free to ignore Oaklyn's problems! It is time for new, fresh and independent voices on town council to fight for our town's future. Different faces from the same clique, simply changing chairs to save their political skins, is just not good enough to save our town... let's start the debate and shake-up Oaklyn's government! * Restoring Fiscal Responsibility in Borough Hall. First and foremost, public officials need to address the overwhelming tax burden facing every individual taxpayer and small business owner in New Jersey. Governor Corzine's administration is hurting taxpayers and burdening the next generation. Our local taxes are not any better! However, we are seeing far-too-little done to benefit the town with the higher taxes that we are forced to pay. We need fiscal responsibility and bold, new ideas to rescue overburdened Oaklyn families! * Revitalizing Our Business District. Collingswood's Haddon Avenue is booming and Audubon's Merchant Street is prospering. Oaklyn is falling dangerously behind our neighbors! We have all seen the vacant rateable properties around town. Our business district is declining and the current council and mayor are doing nothing to attract new businesses into the prime real estate locations on the White Horse Pike and Clinton Avenue. Oaklyn needs a new strategy to revitalize our town. Only new leadership can begin the process. * Instituting Transparency in Governance. Oaklyn's government is out-of-touch with its people. There is a serious breakdown in communication between Oaklyn's government and our town's residents (Check the Oaklyn website to see our point clearly illustrated: www.oaklyn-nj.com ). We strongly believe that civic engagement, civic participation, and civic trust are key components to a successful community. Start talking, Oaklyn! We need you to voice your opinion, discuss the issues and make your beliefs known this November at the polling station! |
