Asking Congress to reject cuts in imaging services under Medicare

 

Toms River-area patients, physicians, advocacy groups, and community leaders, in partnership with the Access to Medical Imaging Coalition (AMIC), are calling on Congress to reject Medicare cuts proposed by the Obama Administration that would severely limit patient access to diagnostic imaging services.

 

In New Jersey, where residents are already challenged with the sixth highest annual incidence rate of cancer (499.8/100,000), and particularly Ocean County which has the third highest incidence rate in the state (557/100,000), restricting access to diagnostic imaging scans threatens to reverse significant progress made in treating deadly diseases.   

 

Local residents will share their stories about the critical role that medical imaging plays in providing high quality health care during a press conference set for Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Ocean Imaging Center in Toms River. Experts will also explain the devastating impact that these imaging proposals will have on local patients, if adopted.

 

Among those to speak will be Dr. Joseph Triolo, medical director of Ocean Medical Imaging Center and Radiology Department chairman of the Toms River Community Medical Center; Dr. Pandurang Miskin, a neurologist with offices in Toms River and Brick; and Marge Madeiros of Whiting, a Medicare beneficiary.
