Obama foes seized on the aftermath of the thwarted plot to attack Obama's entire national security policy and closing Guantanamo Bay, escalating a fight sparked as the president faces his first big test in confronting terrorism.

Judicial Watch announces list of Washington’s 'ten most wanted  corrupt politicians' for 2009

Washington, D.C.

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released its 2009 list of Washington's "Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians." The list, in alphabetical order, includes:

1. Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT): This marks two years in a row for Senator Dodd, who made the 2008 "Ten Most Corrupt" list for his corrupt relationship with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and for accepting preferential treatment and loan terms from Countrywide Financial, a scandal which still dogs him. In 2009, the scandals kept coming for the Connecticut Democrat.

Napolitano Concedes Airline Security System Failed

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano conceded Monday that the aviation security system failed when a young man on a watch list with a U.S. visa in his pocket and a powerful explosive hidden on his body was allowed to board a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.

The Obama administration has ordered investigations into the two areas of aviation security — how travelers are placed on watch lists and how passengers are screened — as critics questioned how the 23-year-old Nigerian man charged in the airliner attack was allowed to board the Dec. 25 flight.

Foiled Terror Attack Should Be Wake-Up Call

Ever since 9/11, the Democrats’ mantra has been that the FBI’s and CIA’s efforts to protect us are threatening our civil liberties.

As recently as two months ago, John Conyers Jr., a Michigan Democrat who heads the House Judiciary Committee, introduced a bill to gut key Patriot Act provisions which the FBI has used successfully to obtain intelligence quickly.

“Over the past eight years, Americans grew tired of the same old scare tactics, designed to fool the public into believing that we needed to give up freedom to be safe from terrorism,” Conyers said. “It is a new day and an opportunity for reform.”

Police merger put on hold

The idea that Riverton, Palmyra and Cinnaminson would one day merge their police departments into a single regional force seemed simple in theory.

The three departments already frequently assist one another with investigations and emergencies, and conventional wisdom held that combining them would eliminate redundancies and save taxpayers money.

Flood warning for two N.J. counties

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Burlington and Camden Counties, where small creeks and streams were rising because of rain and melting snow. The Cooper River in Haddonfield and the south branch of the Rancocas Creek in Vincetown were both swollen, said meteorologist Joe Miketta. While the downfall tapered off by mid-morning, the combination of rain and warm temperatures melted last week's snowfall leading to flooding. "It's pretty when it falls, but you've got to clean it up and wait for it to melt and when it melts it causes problems," Miketta said. There was also minor tidal flooding on the Delaware River but the water level was expected to go back down when the tide moved out, he said.
