I wanted to update you on the snowstorm that is buffeting Camden County and will continue to do so until early afternoon. In order to clear roads as effectively and quickly as possible, Camden County has declared a state of emergency, barring all but essential traffic from the roads so that crews can do their work. This state of emergency will be in effect until the County rescinds it. That will be when the roads are clear. I will update you when that happens.
We’ve posted a copy of the declaration of a state of emergency on the Camden County website, www.camdencounty.com. Go to the homepage and click on the snow icon for all the latest updates and information.
The storm is forecast to drop anywhere from 18-26 inches on the county before it’s over in early afternoon. South of Lindenwold, snow accumulations will be at the higher end of the range. These include Gloucester Township, Winslow Township, Waterford Township and Chesilhurst.
It is vitally important for residents to comply with the state of emergency restrictions, for their own safety and for public safety for everyone. County crews have been working tirelessly throughout the night and into today to clear the roads in the face of a massive snowfall and gusting winds. Local municipalities that are part of our shared services agreement for plowing have also done an outstanding job, as have law enforcement. Police departments have helped keep the roads clear by making sure cars are off the sides of the roads and working closely with our snow removal team.
The goal is to have county roads cleared by nightfall, using salting and de-icing techniques once the storm ends and before the overnight freeze hits. By noon, all county roads should be passable, but only essential personnel is permitted on them until the state of emergency is lifted. If you do need to drive, drive slowly and cautiously.
If you are experiencing any snow-related road problems, please call your local municipality if it is a local road issue or the Camden County Department of Public Works at: 856-566-2980 to problems on county roads.
