Poll: Almost two-thirds of U.S. oppose health law

Almost two-thirds of Americans believe the new healthcare law is too expensive and gives too much authority to the government for healthcare, according to a USA Today/Gallup Poll.

That could be bad news for Democrats in November’s congressional elections.

Supporters "are not only going to have to focus on implementing this kind of major reform," Robert Blendon, a Harvard professor of health policy and political analysis, told the paper.

St. Joseph’s/Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP) Community Youth and Adult Letter Writing Campaign

 

 

“Do you know how it feels to be a kid and to think that drugs are more important to your dad then you are…I do” This is just one of the shocking sentiments shared in more than 234 letters that have been sent to Assemblyman Angel Fuentes, State Sen. Donald Norcross, and Gov. Chris Christie, as part of a letter writing campaign to encourage New Jersey lawmakers to make the needed revisions to the Drug Offense Restraining Order Act of 1999.

 

Following a community meeting with Assemblymen Fuentes and Wilson and Norcross, St. Joseph’s/CCOP learned recently that the proposed bill A2416 needed to be revised and reworked.  The rationale behind the revisions is to ensure that the new legislation does not just sound good on paper but actually enables New Jersey police departments to use the Drug Offense Restraining Order, DORO.

 

Fearing that this legislative hurdle will slow down the process St. Joseph’s/CCOP leaders decided to keep the pressure on by sharing the deeply personal and upsetting stories from youth and adults from their church community. 

 

“This has confirmed not only how resilient Camden teenagers are, but how much we owe it to them to fight to give them more than a ride home from a church event,” commented Kristin Prinn, CCOP leader and youth director at St. Joseph’s Pro-Cathedral.

  

Reading these letters you can see the full picture of the drug epidemic.  From the elementary age child in East Camden who writes, “I’m tired of hearing of the people getting killed,” to the suburban family out side of Camden who write “For 15 years we lived a life of hell, giving us an inside look of the damnable world of drug addiction.”

 

“The power is in the hands of our lawmakers to rewrite the bill and pass it so Camden and all N.J. police departments can actually do something with it,” explained Teresa Reyes, CCOP leader from East Camden.  “We don’t just want a bill that looks good on paper; we want a bill that gives our police department the power to keep drug offenders out of our neighborhoods.”

 

St. Joseph’s/CCOP leaders plan to run the letter writing campaign until there is a bill that accomplishes the task at hand, that is making DORO work on the streets not just on paper.  They have already sent 234 letters.

By now,  you should have received your 2010 U.S. Census questionnaire.  Participating in the census is not only the law, it is also vital to many of the services we take advantage of every day.  

The federal government uses the information you provide to determine how $400 billion in funding for schools, hospitals, senior citizens centers, job training programs and public works projects gets divided.  Your responses to the 10 simple questions on the census form will go a long way toward determining what resources our area will receive in the future.  Countless decisions are made based upon census data such as population, ethnic background and age.

The new census questionnaire is shorter and simpler to fill out than those distributed in previous census surveys.  The packet mailed to your home also contains a postage paid return envelope, so there is no reason not to participate.

Since the U.S. Census only takes place every ten years, it will be another decade before we will be given the next opportunity to be accurately represented.

Rasmussen: 54% Favor Repeal of Healthcare

One week after the House passed the Democratic healthcare plan that President Obama subsequently signed into law, 54 percent of the nation's likely voters still favor repealing the law.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 42 percent oppose repeal.

Listening to those TV/radio hosts and political analysts (do they really know how to analyze? do they really know what they're talking about?) and all those political pundits, you would think Sara Palin is one big jerk.

But who are the jerks, Sarah Palin or the people who condemn her for whatever reason, virtually on a daily basis (coming to save John McCain's ass or accusing her of making "empty-headed" comments or joining the Tea Party)?

They want people to forget her but they're making that job difficult for people. All they're really doing is keeping her name before the public in the hopes the people will see she's a "dummy" and not fit to be in the White House. Duh, the one in there now is fit???

Just keep it up, fellows. Let her name reign supreme. We should get used to it, right, Madame President?

Nearly one American in four routinely censors his or her own thoughts "much" or "always" under President Obama's administration, and those who believe their personal liberties have plunged since inauguration day have grown significantly from 49 percent to more than 55 percent in just one month.

This month, of course, was when Democrats rammed through a bill that essentially nationalizes health care, creating new requirements for consumers to purchase a government-chosen plan or face penalties.
