A lawsuit against Augusta State University in Georgia alleges school officials essentially gave a graduate student in counseling the choice of giving up her Christian beliefs or being expelled from the graduate program.

School officials Mary Jane Anderson-Wiley, Paulette Schenck and Richard Deaner demanded student Jen Keeton, 24, go through a "remediation" program after she asserted homosexuality is a behavioral choice, not a "state of being" as a professor said, according to the complaint.

High court supports Mojave cross in Calif.

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court said Wednesday that a lower court went too far in ordering the removal of a congressionally endorsed war memorial cross from its longtime home atop a remote outcropping in California.

Signaling support for keeping the cross, the justices ordered the federal court in California to look again at Congress' plan to transfer a patch of federal land beneath it into private hands.

The lower court had barred the land transfer as insufficient to eliminate concern about a religious symbol on public land — in this case, the Mojave National Preserve

The state of California is poised within days to adopt a resolution that schools be "discrimination-free" zones – a plan one critic asserts is designed "to stamp out the free speech of students and teachers with moral values or scientific ethics."

ACR 82 already has gone most of the way through the legislative approval process and only awaits state Assembly approval of Senate changes.

135 local schools fail to meet No Child Left Behind goals

The latest list of New Jersey schools that failed to make adequate yearly progress, or AYP, under the federal No Child Left BehindAct includes 135 schools in the tri-county area.

Most of the schools on the list for 2009-2010, released at noon today by the New Jersey Department of Education, failed to meet one or two of 41 benchmarks based on such factors as how various subgroups do on standardized testing. Attendance is also counted, so if a subgroup is very small and one or two children in it are sick on testing day it can mean a failed benchmark for a school.

An international human rights organization today announced it will pursue a civil lawsuit on behalf of parents who want to control their children's education and withhold them from explicit sex education and play-acting classes required by the German government.

Joel Thornton of the International Human Rights Grouptold WND the government in Salzkotten, Germany, is sending the fathers of the children to jail for terms of one week because they have refused to turn their children over to school officials for mandated sex classes.
