At the height of the Great Depression in the 1930s, many Americans fighting for survival ended up living in crudely built shantytowns known as "Hoovervilles," in humiliating honor of President Herbert Hoover, who many blamed for the economic distress.

Now in 2010, radio giant Rush Limbaugh is declaring the United States has become one giant "Obamaville," thanks directly to the policies of President Barack Obama.

Historical society hosts best book sale ever

The Camden County Historical Society's two-day book sale will take place Friday, June 25, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., and Sunday, June 27, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The Society is located at 1900 Park Blvd., just off Haddon Avenue and behind Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden.

 

Open to collectors, history buffs, dealers and the general public, this annual event is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.

CAMDEN, NJ -- Women have always lent their voices to Camden County history, but have you actually heard them? That's just one question posed by a special gathering of 10 top local women leaders for a March 13 seminar marking Women's History Month (snow date March 20).

Hosted by the Camden County Historical Society in their Boyer Auditorium, the "Camden County Women's Voices -- Past, Present and Future" seminar is designed to inspire women of all ages. The event, which runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., is open to the public. The event is sponsored by Holman Automotive, 1st Colonial National Bank and TD Bank.
